Economizer to reduce energy consumption

In many industrial processes there is valuable residual heat from waste gas streams, whose energy can be used. Here, Maxxtec economizers will be used to harness this energy efficiently to heat for example, feed water, combustion air or various industrial processes. Economizer also will be used to raise the return temperature by thermal oil or at hot water systems and also to use the energy as a building heating. Waste heat boilers of all brand and sizes can be retrofitted with an economizer. They pay for themselves within a very short time, because even small temperature differences will show a significant economic benefit.

 

Economizter as feedwater preheaters

In classical usage serve economizer (short Eco) as feed water preheater, as the feed water is passed before entering the heat recovery steam generator through the economizer to preheat the feed water and simultaneously cool the exhaust stream. In this way, the feed water must be considerably less heated by the waste heat boiler and the efficiency increases significantly. Regardless of the design of the waste heat boiler or furnace, will be by the effect of exhaust gas temperature reduction, for example from 260 ° C to 120 ° C, reduces of flue gas losses and thus of fuel consumption by 7%.

 

Functionality

Economizers are heat exchangers with flue gas / exhaust on one side and water on the other. Depending on the application, economisers consists of smooth or finned tube heating surfaces. The feed water or return water is typically passed through the heat exchanger in countercurrent flow. Depending on the composition and dust content of the exhaust gas, heat exchanger pipes are more or less provided with ribs or so-called "pins" for magnification the heat transfer surfaces. By this measure, substantial, additional amounts of heat from exhaust gas are useable. So the temperatures behind conventional shell boilers are typically between 180 - 280 °C and then will be, depending on dew point, lowered to about -130 ° C. Rule of thumb: Any reduction in the exhaust gas temperature by 10 °C increases the degree of efficiency thereby around 0.5%, so that the degree of efficiency by a typical retrofitting often increases by more than 5%. The increase from degree of efficiency is one to one reflected linearly on the fuel costs.
